Backend Engineer – Remote (Eastern Time Zone)
Join an innovative technology startup building AI-driven tools for the staffing and recruiting industry. This is a unique opportunity to shape the core infrastructure of a VC-backed team delivering meaningful productivity gains for recruiters at enterprise clients. Collaborate closely with a visionary founding team and help deliver secure, real-world automations that redefine how search firms operate.
This role is open to remote candidates in the Eastern Time Zone.
Backend Engineer Benefits & Compensation
- Strong six figure competitive compensation and meaningful equity stake
- Opportunity to take ownership of critical backend systems impacting major search firms
- Work with a forward-thinking, collaborative founding and engineering team
- Build solutions held to the highest security standards (SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, CCPA)
Backend Engineer Requirements & Qualifications
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs in production, including orchestration and evaluation of non-deterministic systems — with a heavy emphasis on prompt engineering across a wide range of use cases
- Strong backend fundamentals using Python: API design, data modeling, async/event-driven patterns, and PostgreSQL databases
- Proven track record of shipping highly reliable software in high-ownership environments (startup experience a plus)
- Comfort with real-world software integrations: OAuth, webhooks, rate limits, proprietary APIs, and modern tooling including MCPs
- Deep understanding of reliability and data security; proactive about handling failure modes
- A genuine eagerness to learn and adapt — candidates who are unwilling to grow need not apply
Backend Engineer Must-Have Tools & Skills
- Claude Code or Codex
- Familiarity with Temporal for workflow orchestration and Braintrust for QA/evaluation
Backend Engineer Preferred Background & Skills
- Experience with agent/tool-use orchestration or eval-driven development
- Previous work integrating with calendar, email, CRM, ATS, or TRM platforms
- General data modeling experience (entity-relationship or equivalent)
- Python, Postgres, GitHub
Backend Engineer Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Design and maintain LLM pipelines through extensive prompt engineering, ensuring solutions work seamlessly across a wide variety of recruiter use cases without requiring clients to manually configure or adjust settings
- Deliver a frictionless onboarding experience — the goal is one onboarding call where clients can define how they want the product to work, and it works
- Build robust two-way integrations with email, calendar, and recruiting platforms, including custom work on proprietary client tooling and the latest API and MCP-based integrations
- Develop and refine systems to guarantee high reliability and data security — covering queuing, retries, idempotency, per-firm data isolation, and review-before-send approval flows
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to shape the core architecture and quickly deliver impactful solutions, with significant data expansion on the horizon
- Continuously improve automation systems that help recruiters save time and increase productivity
If you're passionate about building secure, high-impact AI systems, thrive in fast-moving environments, and want to shape the tools trusted by leading recruiting firms — we encourage you to apply.
