Senior Accountant Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 4–7 years of real estate accounting experience.
- Solid understanding of property-level accounting, CAM, accruals, and financial reporting.
- Strong consolidation and analytical experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with accounting software (Yardi preferred).
- Ability to supervise or mentor staff.
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines without sacrificing accuracy.
Senior Accountant Preferred Background & Skills
- CPA certification highly desirable.
- Public accounting background.
- Experience preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial statements for multiple properties.
- Familiarity with budgeting and reforecasting processes.
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
Senior Accountant Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and ensure accurate reporting of corporate and property-level accounting functions in line with GAAP and IFRS.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, including consolidations, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements for a portfolio of real estate properties.
- Coordinate and prepare CAM and operating expense reconciliations in adherence to lease terms.
- Maintain general ledger activity for partnership entities and track significant transactions.
- Support process documentation, budgeting, and reforecasting efforts.
- Prepare analyses and investor reports; support annual audits.
- Mentor junior staff and collaborate with asset management on accounting questions and projects.
