Jr. Civil Project Engineer Position Overview
A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join its Site/Civil team. This role supports the planning and design of commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed-use development projects. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment and is motivated to contribute to projects from concept through construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and revise engineering deliverables including technical reports, construction documents, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and site design plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design software.
- Evaluate site conditions through the review of surveys, mapping, geotechnical data, aerial imagery, and hydrologic information to inform grading, drainage, and infrastructure design.
- Prepare designs that address site planning, stormwater management, utility layout, and erosion and sediment control.
- Ensure project compliance with applicable municipal, state (NJ/NY), and federal permitting requirements.
- Participate in field visits and site inspections as needed to support project development and construction activities.
- Maintain a standard Monday–Friday schedule, with flexibility for occasional evening or weekend work based on project demands.
- Provide oversight and mentorship to junior staff when assigned.
- Perform additional duties as required to support project and team objectives.
Qualifications
To succeed in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to independently perform core civil/site engineering tasks while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Approximately 4–8 years of relevant experience in site/civil engineering, including grading design, drainage analysis, stormwater management, and land development projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Solid analytical skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation for travel to project sites.
Technical Knowledge
- Ability to interpret and coordinate site plans, grading and utility layouts, foundation and structural drawings, and related architectural documents.
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing land development and permitting.
Licensure
- FE/EIT certification required; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
