Are you passionate about helping individuals living with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders achieve recovery and independence? First Step House is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Licensed Mental Health Therapist to join our multidisciplinary behavioral health team in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In this role, you will provide evidence-based clinical services to adults experiencing mental health and substance use challenges while collaborating with a team committed to delivering high-quality, person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on client needs and goals.
- Provide individual, group, and family therapy using evidence-based practices.
- Deliver therapeutic interventions for individuals experiencing serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, case managers, peer support specialists, and community partners to coordinate care.
- Participate in treatment team meetings, case consultations, and clinical supervision as appropriate.
- Support clients in developing coping skills, recovery goals, emotional regulation, and community integration.
- Maintain compliance with all state, federal, ethical, and organizational standards.
Qualifications
Required
- Master's degree (MSW, MS, MA) in Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a closely related behavioral health field from an accredited program.
- Current Utah licensure or license-eligible status in one of the following:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Associate-level licensure candidates (CSW-I, ACMHC, AMFT) are encouraged to apply and must be actively working toward independent licensure under supervision.
- Minimum of two (2) years of post-graduate clinical experience.
- Strong assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic intervention skills.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Experience in community mental health, public-sector behavioral health, or programs serving adults with serious mental illness.
- Experience working with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
- Training and demonstrated competency in one or more evidence-based treatment modalities such as:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Illness Management and Recovery (IMR)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
