Civil Engineer II Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
- 3+ years of professional civil engineering experience, emphasizing transportation/infrastructure projects
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Valid state driver's license or reliable transportation to/from project sites
- Experience with urban/rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, and transportation planning
- Working knowledge of Bentley Open Roads Designer and/or AutoCAD/Civil3D
- Familiarity with traffic capacity analysis software
- Familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT) design and permitting standards
- Familiarity with Federal and State ADA Standards and Guidelines
- Experience in construction practices
Civil Engineer II Preferred Background & Skills
- Completed coursework in transportation engineering or highway design
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or ability to obtain PE within 6 months
- Strong written and verbal communication for technical reports and presentations
- Experience mentoring junior staff or leading small teams
- Active participation in professional engineering societies or organizations
Civil Engineer II Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Execute advanced technical engineering tasks on transportation and infrastructure projects
- Prepare engineering plans, reports, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates
- Review and ensure quality of work produced by junior staff
- Integrate environmental considerations into roadway design, including stormwater management and drainage
- Conduct and coordinate field visits, data collection, and analysis
- Obtain permits and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Prepare maps, graphics, and materials for stakeholder and public engagement meetings
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications and funding program materials
- Collaborate across disciplines to deliver sustainable, multimodal transportation solutions
