Civil Engineer (EIT) – Land Development
Location: Sussex County, Delaware

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our Land Development team. This role offers hands-on exposure to the full project lifecycle, from due diligence and site design through permitting and construction support. You will work closely with licensed professional engineers, planners, and project managers on residential, commercial, and mixed-use development projects.
This position is ideal for an engineer looking to build a strong technical foundation while working toward professional licensure.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and preparation of site development plans, including grading, drainage, and utility layouts
- Perform stormwater management calculations and support hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
- Prepare and revise erosion and sediment control (E&S) plans in accordance with local and state regulations
- Develop engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Support due diligence efforts, including site feasibility studies and coordination of environmental constraints
- Assist with permit applications and agency coordination at the local, state, and federal levels
- Participate in construction administration, including RFIs, submittal reviews, and field observations
- Coordinate with internal teams and external consultants to ensure project accuracy and compliance
- Maintain organized project documentation and adhere to quality control standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months
- 0–4 years of experience in land development or site civil engineering
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Basic understanding of site grading, stormwater design, and utility systems
- Familiarity with local zoning, subdivision, and permitting processes is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Experience with hydrology and hydraulic software (e.g., HydroCAD, HEC-RAS)
- Exposure to residential, commercial, or mixed-use development projects
- Internship or co-op experience in civil/site engineering
- Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
