Multi-Unit Human Resources Generalist – Grocery Retail (Field-Based)
A highly field-oriented Human Resources Generalist supporting a multi-unit grocery retail operation across approximately 12–20 stores with an average unit volume of ~$8M per location. This role is embedded directly in store operations and works side-by-side with Store Managers and District Leaders to drive workforce stability, employee relations execution, compliance, and leadership development across high-volume frontline retail environments. This is an operator-leaning HR role where success is measured by store performance, retention, and workforce consistency across assigned locations.

Core Responsibilities
- Work directly with store and district leadership across multiple locations to support workforce needs
- Manage employee relations matters, including workplace concerns and formal investigations
- Support hiring, staffing stability, and retention efforts across assigned stores
- Ensure adherence to employment standards and internal policy requirements (including ADA and FMLA-related processes)
- Analyze turnover patterns and partner with operations to improve workforce stability
- Assist with leadership pipeline planning and internal advancement initiatives
- Conduct regular on-site store engagement visits to evaluate talent and training needs
- Support consistency in compensation practices across store roles
- Coordinate return-to-work processes and workplace accommodations in partnership with safety teams
- Maintain HR records, systems, and employment lifecycle processes
- Provide day-to-day HR guidance to field leadership teams in a multi-unit environment
- Operate as a field-embedded HR partner spending approximately 65% of time in-store supporting operational execution and workforce management
What You Bring
- 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist or HR Business Partner experience in grocery, supermarket, or high-volume multi-unit retail environments
- Proven experience supporting 10+ store locations in a field-based or district-level HR capacity
- Experience supporting hourly, frontline employee populations
- Background in employee relations and workplace issue resolution
- Comfort working in a travel-heavy, store-facing HR role
- Ability to build trust with operational leaders in fast-paced environments
- Demonstrated ability to directly influence store-level operational outcomes through workforce decisions (turnover, staffing, attendance, engagement)
Relevant Background Experience
- Grocery or supermarket HR or store operations leadership experience
- Multi-unit retail environments (10–20+ locations)
- Big box or high-volume retail with hourly workforce intensity
- Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, or District Manager experience with HR accountability
- Field HR or regional HR roles embedded in store operations
