Seafood Buyer Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field preferred
- 1–5 years of experience in purchasing, inventory, merchandising, or supply chain (food industry experience preferred)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication skills
Seafood Buyer Preferred Background & Skills
- Experience with seafood buying or fresh food procurement
- Familiarity with HACCP food safety standards and quality specifications
- Background in vendor evaluation and negotiation
- Understanding of market trends and supply chain dynamics
Seafood Buyer Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Place purchase orders based on sales forecasts and current inventory
- Monitor inventory reports to prevent out-of-stocks and overstock
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating pricing and contracts
- Ensure all products meet food safety requirements and quality standards
- Analyze sales, pricing, and vendor performance for category optimization
- Collaborate with warehouse, logistics, and sales teams to resolve product flow or quality concerns
- Support promotional planning and the onboarding of new suppliers
