Project Engineer Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- 0–3 years of site/civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering experience
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to access job sites
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification
- ACI/NICET/NJ DCA Special Inspector and Nuclear Densometer certification
- Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) license within 6 months preferred
- Proficient in verbal and written English communication
Project Engineer Preferred Background & Skills
- Internship or hands-on construction experience
- Familiarity with inspection of compacted fills, footings, ground improvement, deep foundations, retaining walls, utilities, asphalt, concrete, and sitework elements
- Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, NitroPro, GSLOPE, KeyWall, Rocscience, MS Word, Excel, and Adobe
Project Engineer Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Conduct site inspections to monitor progress and ensure compliance with specifications
- Perform engineering calculations and design project components
- Instruct drafters on developing completed drawings from designs
- Lead and perform geotechnical engineering laboratory checks and tests
- Direct concrete and rebar inspection/testing
- Prepare samples and participate in laboratory testing of materials
- Compile reports, maintain project schedules and budgets
- Coordinate preparation and delivery of project deliverables
- Review product designs and ensure compliance with standards and regulations
- Supervise junior staff and interns as needed
- Travel to project sites 25%–100% of the time, including out-of-state assignments
