We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our fabrication and assembly operations. This key leadership role oversees day-to-day production on the shop floor, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency while driving performance through strong leadership and process discipline. Fabrication and Welding Shop Operations Manager Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in a metal fabrication or equipment manufacturing environment
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams in a job-shop or low-volume/high-mix operation
- Strong working knowledge of welding (MIG/TIG), structural steel fabrication, and laser cutting processes
- Experience with robotic welding systems and fixture development
- Proven ability to plan and execute production schedules, manage resources, and resolve workflow bottlenecks
- Proficiency with Epicor or similar ERP systems for scheduling, job tracking, and inventory control
- Demonstrated commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and team development
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Fabrication and Welding Shop Operations Manager Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise daily operations across fabrication, welding, laser cutting, assembly, and shipping
- Ensure production goals for safety, quality, delivery, and cost are consistently achieved
- Manage, mentor, and develop a skilled team of welders, operators, and production leads
- Coordinate with Engineering, Purchasing, Job Planning, and Sales to maintain smooth job flow and meet customer lead times
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of fiber laser cutting systems and robotic welding cells (Yaskawa experience preferred)
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing, 5S, and data-driven decision-making
- Maintain high levels of inventory accuracy and material traceability through Epicor ERP
- Develop and track KPIs for efficiency, scrap, machine uptime, and labor utilization
- Champion a culture of safety, quality, and accountability across all departments
