Purchasing Manager
Crestwood/Oak Lawn, IL
We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead procurement operations for a high-volume food production facility in the Crestwood / Oak Lawn area. This role is responsible for sourcing raw materials and packaging, managing supplier relationships, controlling inventory levels, and ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role that partners closely with Production, Quality, Logistics, and Finance to support efficient, uninterrupted operations.
What You’ll Do
- Manage purchasing of ingredients, raw materials, packaging, and supplies
- Forecast material needs based on production schedules and demand
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with suppliers
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Ensure all materials meet food safety, regulatory, and quality standards
- Monitor inventory levels to prevent shortages and excess
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and drive efficiency improvements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production goals
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and reporting using ERP systems
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in a food manufacturing or production environment (required)
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality systems
- Experience with ERP systems and purchasing software
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred
Work Environment & Schedule
- Full-time, on-site role
- Minimum 50 hours per week
- Combination of office and warehouse environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work around production and warehouse operations
