The Opportunity
This is a newly created role-the finance team isn't replacing someone; they're building something. The incoming CFO will be the first dedicated financial leader in company history, stepping into a company that has run tight, profitable operations for nearly five decades & is ready to formalize & elevate its financial infrastructure.
Reporting directly to the President, the CFO will partner closely with ownership to drive financial planning and analysis, strengthen reporting and controls, and identify opportunities to increase profitability across the company's three divisions. This is a high-access, high-impact role for someone who wants genuine ownership exposure — not a seat at a conference table three levels removed from decisions.
What You'll Do
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead annual budgeting and rolling financial forecasts across all three business divisions
- Build and maintain financial models to support strategic and operational decision-making
- Analyze performance trends, margins, and profitability by division and service line
- Identify opportunities to streamline operations and improve bottom-line results
Accounting & Reporting
- Own the monthly close process (currently completed within 8–10 business days)
- Produce timely, accurate financial statements and management reporting for ownership
- Oversee tax preparation coordination and annual audit processes
- Manage QuickBooks (current system); evaluate and lead any future system transitions
Cash Flow & Operations
- Manage cash flow and working capital across seasonal revenue cycles
- Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions
- Maintain banking and vendor relationships; support any lender or credit line administration
Leadership & Partnership
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the ownership team on key business decisions
- Collaborate with the company's external fractional CFO during the transition period
- Build and lead the internal accounting team; mentor and develop existing finance staff
- Help institutionalize financial knowledge and processes that have historically lived with the family
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 8+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience in a private company environment
- Demonstrated experience owning the full finance function — close cycle, reporting, budgeting, and cash flow
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks or comparable accounting platform
- Experience managing seasonal or project-based revenue cycles and the cash flow demands they create
- A hands-on operator — someone comfortable doing the work, not just directing it
- Exceptional attention to detail with a love of working in data and spreadsheets
- High integrity and comfort working in close partnership with a family ownership team
Preferred:
- Prior experience as CFO or Controller at a family-owned or owner-operated company
- Background in home services, HVAC, field services, fuel/energy, or distribution industries
- Experience supporting or leading a financial knowledge-transfer or leadership transition
- CPA or CMA designation (not required)
