Superintendent Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience as a commercial construction superintendent
- Senior superintendent candidates typically have seven to ten plus years of experience
- Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, means, and methods
- OSHA Ten Hour certification required
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications
- Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and site activities simultaneously
- Proficiency with scheduling tools and basic computer applications
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Superintendent Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Provide full on-site supervision and coordination of commercial construction projects
- Plan, schedule, and direct daily field activities to ensure timely and on-budget delivery
- Develop and enforce site logistics plans, safety programs, and quality standards
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, inspections, and material deliveries
- Lead preconstruction meetings, coordination meetings, and daily huddles
- Maintain daily reports, schedules, payroll, quantity tracking, and all site documentation
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety requirements and company policies
- Mentor field staff and support team development
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors
