Corporate Controller Requirements & Qualifications
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- 10–15+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- Experience leading accounting operations in a multi-entity environment
- Strong background in financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance (GAAP)
- Experience managing audits and working with external auditors
- Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teams
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Oversee full-cycle accounting operations including general ledger, treasury, cash management, and financial reporting
- Lead month-end close process and produce accurate, timely financial statements
- Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to mitigate risk and ensure compliance
- Partner with executive leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy including 13-week cash flow modeling
- Manage outsourced functions including payroll and tax compliance
- Prepare and present financial insights to executive leadership, board members, and private equity stakeholders
- Monitor debt structures and ensure compliance with financial covenants
- Drive continuous improvement across accounting systems, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency
Corporate Controller Preferred Background & Skills
- Experience in private equity-backed or high-growth environments
- Background in multi-unit, franchise, or retail-driven organizations
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP
- Exposure to SEC reporting and complex tax structures
- Strong communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership and external partners
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities
- Proven track record of building scalable processes and developing talent
