Director of Human Resources Responsibilities
- Provide strategic HR leadership and guidance to the General Manager and executive team
- Direct all human resources functions including recruitment, onboarding, training, employee relations, compliance, and benefits administration
- Foster a positive and productive workplace culture that supports service excellence
- Oversee performance management programs to ensure timely and meaningful employee evaluations
- Lead employee engagement initiatives including recognition programs, meetings, and events
- Develop, implement, and monitor HR policies and procedures to ensure consistent and fair application
- Manage labor relations activities including union administration, grievance response, and arbitration representation
- Review and approve personnel actions including requisitions, authorizations, and status changes
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Train and coach leaders on effective interviewing, hiring, and talent retention strategies
- Supervise and develop Human Resources team members
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets and forecasts
- Oversee workplace safety initiatives and workers’ compensation programs
- Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records
Director of Human Resources Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of Human Resources leadership experience
- Prior hospitality, hotel, or resort experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of employment law, labor relations, and HR best practices
- Proven ability to influence leadership and manage employee relations issues with professionalism and discretion
- Strong communication, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills
- Experience managing HR budgets and workforce planning initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Work Environment
Due to the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry, the Director of Human Resources must be flexible with scheduling based on operational needs, including occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays.
