We are seeking a Patent Agent (Mechanical Engineering) with patent prosecution experience and a technical background in mechanical, electrical, or computer science disciplines to join a nationally recognized corporate practice in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting freedom-to-operate analyses, and advising on IP strategy for complex technologies.

Patent Agent Responsibilities
- Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications
- Conduct freedom-to-operate and clearance analyses
- Analyze scientific literature, patents, and technical disclosures
- Prepare responses to USPTO and international office actions
- Perform patentability and prior art searches
- Collaborate with inventors and clients to understand innovations
- Develop IP strategies and support portfolio development
- Conduct technical analysis comparing inventions to existing technologies
- Participate in examiner interviews and provide strategic recommendations
- Present technical concepts and legal arguments clearly to internal teams and clients
Patent Agent Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or related field
- USPTO registration (or eligibility) preferred
- Experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications
- Strong technical writing and analytical skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate complex scientific concepts
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills
