A dynamic, nationwide non-bank SBA lender is seeking to hire a qualified SBA Business Development Officer. The organization functions as a partner, advisor, investor, developer and lender, bringing together technical know-how and capital for community and economic investment. This role focuses on sourcing, referring, and structuring lending transactions nationwide, typically ranging from $150,000 to $5,000,000, with larger deals possible. It offers significant autonomy in managing business development and is fully remote, with travel and networking expected to support nationwide deal sourcing and relationship development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a referral network of professionals and organizations that can introduce prospective borrowers.
- Actively market business lending products through travel, networking, and industry engagement to build a consistent pipeline of opportunities.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with small and mid-sized businesses seeking financing.
- Conduct initial screening of prospective loan applicants to ensure minimum qualification standards are met.
- Structure financing solutions across multiple lending programs depending on borrower eligibility.
- Match borrower needs with appropriate financing options across the capital continuum.
- Collect and review required documentation for loan applications
- Perform high-level credit analysis, including: financial statement spreading, business and personal cash flow analysis and collateral evaluation
- Prepare term sheets outlining loan structure, pricing, and repayment terms.
- Ensure a smooth transition from origination to credit underwriting.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, economics, or related field. Degrees emphasizing analytical writing and critical thinking may also be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in SBA 7(a) lending.
- Strong working knowledge of SBA lending guidelines and operating procedures.
- Demonstrated sales and business development capabilities.
- Existing business networks in major commercial markets considered a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling borrower information.
- Proficiency with CRM systems, spreadsheets, and business software.
- Comfortable presenting to small and large groups (5–100 people).
