Controller Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
- Mastery of GAAP principles, financial reporting, and budget/forecast processes.
- Demonstrated success supervising and developing teams, ideally in multi-unit, multi-entity service, retail, or hospitality sectors.
- Advanced skills in accounting software, GoogleSuite, and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience managing audits and internal controls in a dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical and technical troubleshooting abilities.
- Proven ability to coach and lead teams, including remote staff across time zones.
- High standards for integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
Controller Preferred Background & Skills
- Experience with ERP systems, especially Rent Manager.
- Hands-on leadership managing remote and geographically dispersed teams.
- Background in multi-franchise or multi-unit environments.
- Comfortable adapting to evolving business needs and wearing multiple hats.
- Interest in career growth and succession planning.
Controller Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Lead the accounting function, managing financial reporting, month-end close, and GAAP compliance for multiple entities.
- Own the annual audit process from planning to successful completion.
- Design and implement scalable financial infrastructure, strengthening systems and internal controls.
- Provide acquisition support, including due diligence, integration leadership, and identifying policy or system gaps.
- Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and driving strategic initiatives.
- Supervise, coach, and develop a high-performing, collaborative team.
- Oversee core accounting, business license compliance, tax reporting, and support payroll operations.
- Continuously evaluate policies and procedures for process enhancement and operational excellence.
