We are seeking a highly capable Hospital Medical Leader (HML) to provide medical and operational leadership within our full-service veterinary hospital. This role is ideal for a veterinarian who excels clinically and is ready to lead a team, influence standards of care, and partner closely with operations to drive results.

What You’ll Lead

  • Provide direct leadership to all hospital veterinarians
  • Mentor and coach doctors to elevate clinical skills, client communication, and teamwork
  • Partner with the Hospital Office Manager to guide, support, and develop the full hospital team
  • Ensure medical quality, compliance, and adherence to Petco medical SOPs and state practice acts
  • Oversee candidate interviewing, doctor onboarding, and schedule management
  • Review medical records, provide feedback, and ensure accuracy and consistency in patient care
  • Address client concerns and incident reports with urgency and professionalism
  • Manage controlled substances and ensure DEA/state compliance
  • Monitor hospital performance, identify opportunities, and collaborate with leadership on P&L, revenue growth, efficiency, and quality

What You’ll Do Clinically

  • Perform thorough physical exams, diagnose and treat conditions, and deliver preventive care
  • Use a complete problem-based approach to develop diagnostics, differential lists, and treatment plans
  • Perform routine and advanced surgeries (spays/neuters, soft tissue, abdominal procedures)
  • Provide full-spectrum dentistry including radiographs and surgical extractions
  • Ensure seamless continuity of care for hospitalized patients and transfers

Who You Are

  • DVM from an AVMA-accredited institution
  • 1–3+ years of clinical experience (leadership/mentorship experience preferred)
  • Active veterinary license, DEA license, and relevant state controlled substance registration (or ability to obtain)
  • Skilled in anesthesia, dentistry, and routine/complex surgeries
  • Strong communicator with the ability to coach, mentor, and lead a medical team
  • Professional, compassionate, adaptable, and committed to high medical standards
