Operations Manager

The Yard Manager oversees daily operations for non-ferrous and ferrous metal processing, focusing on staff management, safety, quality control, inventory, and compliance with environmental regulations. The role requires expertise in processing materials like aluminum, copper, brass, and ferrous metals, including baling, torching, and shearing. Strong leadership and a solid understanding of metal recycling are essential to ensure safety and meet production goals.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management:

  • Lead staff in metal processing, assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide training.
  • Enforce safety protocols, standards, and address performance issues.
  • Approve timecards, oversee attendance, and manage hiring/termination decisions.

Operational Oversight:

  • Oversee sorting and processing of metals, ensuring safe equipment operation and meeting production goals.

Quality Control:

  • Monitor processed metals for quality, conduct inspections, and reduce waste.
  • Perform audits to maintain operational efficiency.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Enforce safety guidelines and ensure environmental compliance.
  • Report incidents and collaborate on safety solutions.

Inventory Management:

  • Track inventory, ensure timely processing, and maintain accurate records.

Maintenance and Equipment Management:

  • Oversee equipment maintenance and address issues with the maintenance team.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain production and safety records, generate reports, and assist in meeting production goals.

Certifications:

  • OSHA or similar safety certification.
  • Forklift or heavy equipment certifications

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working with machinery in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to work in outdoor or semi-outdoor conditions.

Work Environment:

  • Industrial/warehouse setting, focused on metal processing.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and other industrial elements.
  • Evening, weekend, or holiday shifts may be required.
