Director of Finance
The Director of Finance (DOF) is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, and aligning fiscal activities with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.
Director of Finance Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation, coordination, and project management for the annual financial audit.
- Lead ongoing processes throughout the year to identify and implement timely organizational adjustments as necessary, ensuring alignment with Board-approved objectives, financial targets, and obligations.
- Maintain a sharp awareness of the overall financial health and proactively keep the senior leadership team, Board, staff, and key external educational partners informed of the organization’s financial status.
- Serve a key role in the employee and vendor contract processes, as well as in legal matters.
- Partner with the Executive Director, consultants, and the Board of Directors to develop the annual operating budget
Director of Finance Requirements
- Knowledge of California School Accounting protocols and requirements a must
- Exceptionally skilled in hands-on financial analysis, with a strong ability to set priorities and make timely decisions.
- A deep understanding of the financial and strategic decisions faced by a mission-driven, not-for-profit institution.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA a plus
- At least 8 years of successful track record in financial analysis and controllership experience
- Strong personal skills, approachability, good humor, and team-oriented style
