The Director of Plant Operations is responsible for driving quality, efficiency, and responsiveness in the manufacturing and operations of our South Carolina Division. The position requires diverse large scale steel/metal manufacturing, and hands-on operations management experience; including but not limited to, strategic planning, quality systems, performance monitoring and reporting, team building, capacity management, materials and inventory management, corporate compliance, and customer communication.

 

ESSENTIAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Excellence:

  • Develops strategic operating plans and responds to changing business conditions, with an emphasis on customer satisfaction through continuous process improvement.
  • Evaluate operational processes and procedures and develop strategies and implementation plans to improve and standardize all aspects of operations.
  • Develop and implement methods and systems to control operating costs and manage material inventory.
  • Financial proficiency is required to establish all required budgets and resource plans for manufacturing operations. Monitor and perform within the forecasted plan. Identify, communicate, and drive labor, other variables, and base cost leverage.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Driving and working with team members to deliver excellence through a focus on process efficiency and other strategic manufacturing initiatives.
  • Develop, drive, and/or support initiatives to manage risk and improve processes related to safety, quality, cost, delivery, and customer relations.
  • Track key performance indicators that drive change and provide visibility to the manufacturing and leadership teams. Monitor routinely with active data analysis to target and drive results.
  • As a member of the executive team, drive successful cross-functional initiatives, set direction, engage multiple parties, execute outcomes, and communicate to key stakeholders.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in business administration or engineering with 6+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience in a working manufacturing environment with a focus on Metal/Steel Structures, Industrial Compactors/Containers, Waste Equipment, or similar segments or equivalent experience.
  • Lean Sigma Six Certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience in a related industry with previous and progressive hands-on operational plant management roles. In this role, you will be managing 70% from the floor. Must be hands-on and present.
  • A strong combination of business operations, quality, continuous improvement, process development, and program management experience.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to lead and manage a diverse workforce with effective communications up, down, and across the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions while coordinating multiple projects, programs, variables, and priorities.
  • Must have influence skills to work across all levels of the organization to gain support and drive team results.
  • Must be open to 10-15% on-the-job travel and can train out of state.
