Special Education Math Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction to students with diverse learning needs in the subject of mathematics at the secondary level
  • Collaborate with general education math teachers, support staff, and parents to create individualized education plans (IEPs) and implement strategies to support students with disabilities in achieving academic success in mathematics
  • Provide direct instruction in mathematics to students with diverse learning needs, adapting teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to differentiate math instruction and support student engagement and learning.
  • Monitor and assess student progress in mathematics, and provide ongoing feedback to students, parents, and the IEP team.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, including IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications as they relate to math instruction. 
  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders to support student learning and well-being.
  • Consult with elementary teachers with instructional strategies, model instruction, create manipulatives for elementary students. 

Special Education Math Teacher Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Master’s degree preferred) with a focus on math instruction
  • State of Utah Teaching Licensure with Visually impaired or math endorsement (or be willing to complete within 3 years of hire)
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including those with specific learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, and intellectual disabilities
  • Experience teaching in a classroom setting
  • Experience managing IEPs and following effective case management
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices in mathematics instruction for students with disabilities
  • Be located near Ogden, Utah or be willing to relocate to the area
