Insurance Defense Associate Attorney Requirements & Qualifications
- Active New York Bar admission
- Juris Doctor (J.D.)
- 1–6 years of litigation experience
- Experience managing litigation files independently
- Strong deposition and motion practice background
- Demonstrated courtroom experience
- Proficient legal writing and analytical skills
- Knowledge of insurance carrier reporting and billing procedures
Insurance Defense Associate Attorney Preferred Background & Skills
- Experience in insurance defense litigation
- Familiarity with personal injury, New York Labor Law (200/240/241), construction, premises, or general liability matters
- Involvement with summary judgment motions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, legal billing platforms, and time entry software
- Experience with Westlaw, LexisNexis, iManage, or NetDocuments is a plus
- Commercial litigators with significant courtroom and deposition experience are encouraged to apply
Insurance Defense Associate Attorney Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Manage litigation files from inception through to resolution or trial
- Handle a range of insurance defense matters, including premises liability, construction accidents, and New York Labor Law cases
- Conduct and defend depositions of fact witnesses, experts, and parties
- Attend hearings, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances
- Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and summary judgment applications
- Evaluate liability, damages, and settlement potential
- Develop litigation strategies and communicate directly with clients and insurance carriers
- Prepare cases for mediation, trial, and settlement negotiations
