Staff Software Engineer Requirements & Qualifications:

Must Haves:

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent depth

• Proven experience designing and operating large-scale production systems

• Strong backend experience building data-intensive applications

• Deep expertise in system design, performance optimization, and reliability engineering

• Hands-on experience with JavaScript and TypeScript

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and modern data stores

• Experience working across multiple services and repositories in cloud-native environments

• Comfort debugging live production issues using logs, metrics, and traces

• Demonstrated ability to influence architecture decisions without formal authority

• Experience mentoring mid-level and senior engineers

Unique Day-to-Day Impact:

• Own complex technical problems end-to-end, from architecture design through production release

• Drive architectural decisions that directly impact system performance, cost, and maintainability

• Identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks and data quality issues across services

• Improve observability, operational readiness, and system reliability in partnership with SRE

• Build automation and tooling to reduce developer and operational toil

• Review and unblock high-impact pull requests while raising engineering standards

• Partner cross-functionally to clarify trade-offs, risks, and long-term scalability decisions

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools responsibly to accelerate prototyping, refactoring, migrations, and testing

Staff Software Engineer Preferred Background & Skills:

Nice to Have:

• Experience with OpenSearch, MongoDB, and AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, RDS, CloudWatch, and Glue

• Frontend experience with React, React Native, or Expo/EAS

• Experience with service-oriented architecture and cloud-native platforms

• Background in data pipelines, ETL/ELT, or analytics platforms

• Experience modernizing legacy systems incrementally

• Experience working closely with SRE or infrastructure teams

• Strong judgment around AI-generated code, including review, validation, and production readiness
