Sous Chef – Conference Center & Hotel 

Location: Washington, DC

Position Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Open availability required (conference & event-driven environment)


Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to support culinary operations at a premier conference center and hotel in Washington, DC. This role is ideal for a culinary professional with strong experience in banquet, catering, and high-volume production who thrives in a structured hospitality environment.

The Sous Chef works closely with the Executive Chef to oversee production, supervise staff, execute catering events, and maintain high standards of food quality, consistency, and presentation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Executive Chef with daily kitchen operations
  • Support food production for conference dining, banquets, and catered events
  • Supervise and coach hourly culinary associates
  • Assist with menu planning and daily execution
  • Help manage food cost controls and monitor expenditures
  • Support rollout of new culinary programs
  • Ensure food safety, sanitation, and allergen compliance
  • Maintain an organized, efficient, and professional kitchen

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent experience
  • Progressive culinary or kitchen leadership experience
  • High-volume, complex foodservice experience is highly desirable
  • Catering and banquet experience strongly preferred
  • Institutional and batch cooking experience is helpful
  • Strong knowledge of food trends, production systems, and presentation
  • Experience with cost controls and kitchen financial management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and email
  • Willing to participate in client satisfaction programs
  • ServSafe certification preferred
