Real Estate Controller

 

Our client is a REIT, (Real Estate Investment Trust). They are searching for a Real Estate Controller who is analytical, an exceptional communicator demonstrates sound judgment, and understands the necessity of attention to detail. Their ideal candidate will have prior financial experience in Real Estate or REIT and have managed a diverse portfolio. This position will report directly to the CFO and will be responsible for Fund Accounting, Real Estate Development Accounting and Finance, and Property Management for Residential, Commercial Real Estate, and farmland.

 

Real Estate Controller Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the accounting and reporting requirements on fund investments including setting up accounts for complex multi-tier investment entities
  • Reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual portfolio-level consolidated financial statements and other client reporting
  • Responsible for oversight of fund-level reporting and coordination of client equity contributions and distributions
  • Manage payroll for multiple locations
  • Review and verify financial information including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for funds on Joint Venture accounts
  • Perform internal audits, coordinate and ensures completion of annual external audits by required deadlines
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of legal entities and debt structure, prepare interest billings, and monitor compliance by the debtor with specific deal requirements

Real Estate Controller Requirements:

  •  Degree from a four-year college or university program with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or a related field required
  • A minimum of 6+ years of hands-on accounting experience
  • Prior experience real estate/property management accounting
  • Experience in GAAP Accounting, including experience calculating straight-line rent and maintaining fixed assets and depreciation in accordance with capitalization policies.
  • Strong knowledge of REITs / Real Estate
  • SEC Reg A compliance is preferred
  • Experience with multi-locations
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, and SAGE
