Salary Negotiation

Salary Negotiation is one of the most difficult and uncomfortable things to do for some people. While negotiating your salary you have to make sure all of the following are included: job title, bonuses, stock options, pension (if any), health benefits, vacation time, paid holidays, etc. The most important thing to remember is that this negotiation is all about you. No one will fight for you like you will. Do not let an owner, an executive, or a company pressure you into responding too quickly.

Make sure that you research the type of salary someone in your position deserves. According to an article on www.johnson.cornell.edu, “Glassdoor, Payscale and Salary.com are all good resources to support this analysis.” When entering a negotiation there are normally three different outcomes; you either get what you asked for, get most of what you asked for, or the company stands firm on their initial offer. If you have gotten as far as salary negotiation the company wants to hire you and are willing to work with you to make sure you feel like you are getting what you deserve.

Good luck negotiating!
